I've been a bad boy. For those of you who are new to this series, I am racing The Hoff to $1 million in net worth. He started the year beating me by about $28k but last month was a great month for me. It was like The Hoff was Charlie Sheen and I was the Detroit audience; he was awful and I was just there to experience it. I had a below average month and he had a miserable one. In one of the most absurd pieces of legislation I've seen, the government is trying to regulate how much money banks are allowed to charge for providing a service. The Durbin Amendment, which was signed into law last year and will go into effect on July 21, would limit debit card interchange fees to a maximum of $0.12 per swipe. Even though retailers are voluntarily deciding to do business with banks that issue Visa and Mastercard debit cards, the government (specifically Dick Durbin) feels the need to get involved and start setting rules and price limits. Japan was hit with a massive earthquake and tsunami last week. We all know this. We also know it is getting worse by the day. More people are being confirmed dead. The nuclear reactors are in a state of emergency as engineers do their best to prevent a meltdown. There is no way to prepare for this kind of devastation. The only thing we can do is react. Unfortunately with the disaster being so far away, the only way most of us will be able to help is to donate money. I have bad news, good news, and more good news. The bad news is, I completely failed in my February goal of flossing and whitening my teeth. I used the Crest Whitestrips for two days and my teeth were so sensitive it was unbearable, so I had to stop. As far as flossing was concerned, I did more than usual but still not every day. I'm going to try to floss more, but I have a new goal for March. The good news is that I am going to get in better shape in the month of March.
