Ordering food using credit cards has become more popular than ever before with the dawn of the mobile food delivery app. Uber Eats, Foodora, you name it — it’s given us all the convenience of ordering practically anything we want, from any restaurant we want, at any hour of the day.

What we fail to remember while tapping our thumbs on the “Order Now” button, or even when we’re sitting down to a meal at a restaurant, is that the mark-up is huge! Not only that, but once the ordering starts it can quickly become a habit for families or single individuals who just don’t feel like cooking dinner.

Next thing you know, you’ve got a couple of hundred extra dollars to pay off at the end of the month on your credit card bill.

The only way to break this bad habit is to delete those apps from your phone and start preparing your own meals. Choose a time like Sunday night, or any night of the week that fits accordingly with your schedule, to plan out what you are going to eat for the rest of the week.

Use this time to check out grocery store flyers, research online recipes, and bulk up your fridge and cupboards for the week so that you won’t be tempted to order any additional goodies. From there, you can either buy the ingredients you need to create your meals or pick up food that is easy to make if you don’t like cooking.

Once you start making your own lunches and dinners, you’ll be shocked at how much money you’ll save. And the nice thing about not going out to eat is that when you do, it can be for special occasions so it will feel like a treat!
